PIPER HAYS, RAINE, & GILLIAN at This Ain't Hollywood - 8pm

piper may 17 2017

Come join us for an extra exciting night. Raine Hamilton all the way from Winnipeg, MB will be joining this Hamilton heavy lineup, including Piper Hayes and Gillian Nicola. And at where else but This Ain't Hollywood. Be sure to pick up their CD's on this fab night.

Raine Hamilton
Be transported to a deeply honest place. Her true and clear voice carries you there, bravely cutting through to the heart. There, in the rough and beautiful places, she finds her songs, ringing with courageous transformation, rich with inventive melody, and imbued with sage lyrics; a witching hour walk through universal love, trust and joy. Resonant, acoustic folk with an other-worldly edge, and a lyric presence that cuts deep. ...Prism-clear vocals + strings; A combination of vocal agility and power.

Raine is part prairie songstress, part storyweaver; Each song has a story, delivered between songs with humour and grace. Expect to laugh, expect to cry. Also, she’s probably shorter than you’re imagining, so expect that, too.

Gillian Nicola
The first thing that strikes listeners about Hamilton’s (ON) Gillian Nicola is the strength of her vocals. Nicola’s vocal delivery is full of power, while remaining authentic and vulnerable. The singer/songwriter calls on influences of folk, rock and alt-country to create a sound that honours her diverse taste.

In late 2015, Nicola headed into Hamilton’s Catherine North Studios to work with producer Dan Hosh (Whitehorse, City & Colour, Rose Cousins) on her sophomore EP, No Place to Call (spring 2016). Mastered by Elliott Brood’s Stephen Pitkin, the five-song EP is a move to a sound that Nicola feels fully defines her as an artist. On a base level, the songs are what many have come to know and love from Canadian folk music, but the vocal delivery and heavy instrumentation set Nicola apart.

Piper Hayes
Piper Hayes is a Canadian pop folk singer-songwriter based in Hamilton, Ontario. She has toured her original music extensively across North America, Europe, the U.K., and Nepal. She teaches workshops on mental health, vocal empowerment, and songwriting all over the world. Most recently she teamed up with the Canadian Mental Health Association, using contact education to reduce stigma around mental illness. She was nominated in the top eight for Ontario Arts Council's 2016 Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award. In October 2016, she released her sophomore EP, Goodbye Mister Nice Guy, produced by Dean Drouillard.
